The Webbs

Both Jack and Linda came from families where giving and helping others was just a way of life. Those values were ingrained in the pair as they raised their own family, and now they try to instill in their grandchildren the spirit of giving.

When Jack and Linda Webb moved to Syracuse from Rochester in 1984, they felt welcomed by the people in their new community. They quickly adjusted to their new home, engaging in their children’s schools, volunteer work, youth sports and their neighborhood. The couple found the area to be a wonderful place to raise their family and were fortunate that their three children with their five grandchildren had also chosen to make Syracuse their home.

The pair began their careers in the banking industry and they have been conscious of the need to make good financial decisions. They chose to contribute appreciated stock to seed their donor-advised fund with us.

“The fund helps us supplement our giving, and administration of the fund has been very easy,” said Jack. “The staff’s expertise has been extremely helpful as we make grants from our fund.”

Both Jack and Linda came from families where giving and helping others was just a way of life. Jack’s mother volunteered at church and other community organizations, while his father spent time volunteering for the local fire department. Linda’s mother and father also set the volunteering example. Her mother often had knitting needles in her hands to make mittens for children in the Rochester city schools – over 500 pairs to date. Those values were ingrained in the pair as they raised their own family, and now they try to instill in their grandchildren the spirit of giving. They plan to engage them in the process of making grants from their fund as they grow.

Through their own volunteering, Jack and Linda have seen the wonderful work that many local organizations are doing and the continued need to support them. They use their fund to support a variety of arts, healthcare and human service organizations. The pair explained that an attractive part about their fund is that they are not limited to where they can give and that the flexibility is very convenient.

“We chose to contribute appreciated stock to seed our donor-advised fund,” said Jack. “The expertise available at the Community Foundation has made establishing our fund convenient. Making grants is simplified by having the ability to allocate grants electronically.”

The pair expressed that they want to ensure future generations will enjoy the quality of life that they have now. Through their donor-advised fund, we have made that possible.
