The Central New York Community Foundation is committed to maintaining the confidentiality, integrity and security of personal information entrusted to us by current donors, potential donors and by the officers and staff of nonprofit agencies who approach us for funding, and the people that they serve.

We created this statement to demonstrate our commitment to your privacy. We do not collect personally identifiable information about you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide such information to us. Providing such information is strictly voluntary. This policy is your guide to how we will handle information we learn about you from your visit to our website.

This Policy will also tell you how you can verify the accuracy of your personal information submitted through this Web site and how you can request that we correct or update your personal information. It is through this disclosure that we intend to provide you with a level of comfort and confidence in how we collect and use information through this Web site.

Our Commitment to our Donors

We will not sell, share or trade our donors’ names or personal information with any other entity, nor send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations. This policy applies to all information received by the Central New York Community Foundation, both online and offline, as well as any electronic, written, or oral communications.

Our Organization and Website

This Privacy Policy describes the way this Web site, staging-cnycf.temp513.kinsta.cloud, collects, uses and safeguards the personal and non-personal information about you that we collect or that you provide through this site. This site is owned and maintained by Central New York Community Foundation and is designed as a communication tool.

PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION WE COLLECT FROM YOU

When you visit the Web site, we will not collect personal information about you unless you provide it to us voluntarily. Personal information includes information that is particular to you such as name, age, street address, and e-mail address. Our primary goal in collecting personal information from you when you visit the site is to provide you the functionality and services that you need to have a meaningful and customized experience while using the site features. If you decide not to provide us with personal information, you can still access this site; however you may be unable to access certain content or receive particular information.

HOW WE USE THE PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Personally identifiable information collected on the Web site may be used to:

  • Fulfill a user request for communication materials or publications related to the Web site
  • Respond to your comments or requests for information
  • Meet a request for or to develop new products or services
  • Make the user experience more customer-friendly
  • Contact you if necessary in answering questions
  • Comply with legal requirements
  • Verify user identity
  • Pre-populate fields for user convenience
  • Provide you with news and updates should you opt in to our mailing list

SHARING YOUR INFORMATION

The Web site does not sell, rent, share or otherwise provide any of your personally identifiable information to anyone for their independent use.

We collect and store only the following information about you: the name of the domain from which you access the Internet (for example, aol.com, if you are connecting from an America Online account, or syr.edu if you are connecting from Syracuse University’s domain), the date and time you access our site, and the Internet address of the Web site from which you linked to our site.

We use the information we collect to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our site and to help us make our site more useful to visitors.

Site metrics for the Web site may be shared with the Community Foundation or its subsidiaries or affiliates. The information shared will be aggregate data and will not include any of your personally identifiable information.

The site will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on the Community Foundation or the site; b) protect and defend the rights or property of the Community Foundation and the site; and c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the Community Foundation, its Web site, or the public. Your personal information may also be transferred in the event of a sale, merger, consolidation or similar transaction pertaining to the site and/or Community Foundation.

SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION

Safeguarding information of visitors to our Web site is important to us. We use systems, policies and procedures to maintain accuracy of information and to protect information from loss, misuse or alteration. When you send personal information, such as telephone number or street address, to the site, we use Secure Socket Layers or SSL, to protect your data. SSL is encryption technology that helps safeguard your personal information against misuse by unauthorized individuals.

Vendors, contractors or partners of the site who have access to your personal information in connection with providing services for the site are required to keep the information confidential and are not permitted to use this information for any other purpose than to carry out the services they are performing for the site.

When using our forms to register or receive information from the Community Foundation, we use secure pages to ensure that the information sent between your computer and our system is secure. We use the Secure Service Layer (SSL) encryption method for all secure submissions. This method is generally accepted to insure that the transmission of personal information is secure. Some common browsers, i.e. Internet Explorer, make it obvious when information is being passed in a secure manner by displaying either a completed key or a closed lock on the screen.

When you send confidential personal credit card information to us on our Web site, a secure server software which we have licensed encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us. The information is scrambled en route and decoded once it reaches our Web site.

Other email that you may send to us may not be secure unless we advise you that security measures will be in place prior to your transmitting the information. For that reason, we ask that you do not send confidential information such as Social Security or account numbers to us through an unsecured email.

OUR DATABASE

When you register to receive our newsletter, identify your areas of interest or request information about our services, we add your name to our database. This data remains confidential and will only be used by the Community Foundation. We authorize our employees to view your personal information only when necessary to serve you better. We will not share any information you provide to us with any other organization.

If you are in our database and have provided us with an email address, we may notify you from time to time about Community Foundation events, services, and programs. This also enables you to receive current information about the local, national, and global community to better meet your philanthropic needs. Should you request information via email, we do our best to respond within 48 hours. We include “opt-out” instructions with any announcement that is sent to you.

If you complete the online Profile Update Form and share your personally identifying information, this information will be used only to provide you with more targeted content. We may use your contact information to send further information about our organization or to contact you when necessary. You may always opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the “Opt Out” section below.

ONLINE GIVING

Online giving transactions are processed on a secure server. We have put into effect appropriate procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Once you provide us with personal, professional or financial information, that data remains confidential.

We will not sell, rent, loan or otherwise share any personally identifying information you provide with any individual or organization. While we strive to protect the personal information of our users, the Community Foundation will release personal information if required by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary or appropriate.

Use of Links

Throughout our Web pages, we provide links to other sites which may contain information of interest to our readers. We take no responsibility for, and exercise no control over, the organizations, views, or accuracy of the information contained on other servers. Creating a text link from your Web site to our site does not require permission. If you have a link you’d like us to consider adding to our Web site, please send an email to info@cnycf.org with the subject “Link request.”

We use personally identifying information from email primarily to respond to your requests. We may forward your email to other employees who are better able to answer your questions. We may also use your email to contact you in the future about our programs that may be of interest.

We want to be very clear: We will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide such information to us. Providing such information is strictly voluntary. Except as might be required by law, we do not share any information we receive with any outside parties.

If you sign up for one of our email lists, we will only send you the kinds of information you have requested. We won’t share your name or email address with any outside parties.

Opt-Out or Change Your Contact Information

Our site provides users the opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from us by emailing info@cnycf.org. You may choose to receive only specific communications or none at all.

Privacy of Minors

For children who visit our site, special rules apply. We do not request personally identifiable information about children, such as first and last name or street address and city. When children send email to us, their online contact information (email address) is not used to re-contact them and is not maintained in retrievable form.

The site does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age and provides warnings against children under 13 years of age registering with the Community Foundation. If, despite these efforts, a child has provided us with personal information, a parent or guardian of that child may contact us if they want the information deleted from our records. We will take reasonable steps to confirm the identity of the parent and to locate and delete information about the child.
